
On March 26, 2026, the production of steel structure components for a large-scale intelligent logistics warehouse project near Santiago, the capital of Chile, undertaken by Qingdao Liweiyuan Steel Structure Co., Ltd., officially commenced. This shipment of steel structure components, including main frame steel beams, steel columns, and roof support systems, will be transported via the Pacific Ocean to the port of Valparaiso, Chile, and is expected to arrive at its destination in 45 days, thus commencing the subsequent on-site installation work.
To ensure the project complies with local Chilean building codes and international steel structure quality standards, the Liweiyuan Steel Structure project team established a comprehensive quality control system during the production phase. All steel materials are selected from high-strength alloy steel conforming to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards. Automated welding equipment and non-destructive testing technology are employed during production, with 100% flaw detection performed on every weld. In response to the high salt spray and intense sunlight of Chile's coastal climate, two additional layers of epoxy zinc-rich primer and fluorocarbon topcoat were applied to the surface of the components, achieving a corrosion resistance lifespan of over 25 years, far exceeding local standards.
In the packaging stage, the team customized specialized steel fixing frames for large steel beams and columns, employing a double-secured system of anti-slip rubber pads and high-strength steel cables to prevent deformation caused by ship turbulence during transport. Smaller components were packaged in moisture-proof wooden crates containing desiccants and humidity monitoring cards to ensure optimal condition upon arrival.
Since the project's inception, the Liweiyuan Steel Structure project team has overcome multiple challenges, including design adjustments and extended international raw material procurement cycles. Addressing Chile's earthquake-prone geological conditions, the Chinese design team collaborated closely with Chilean structural engineers, conducting three seismic optimizations of the steel frame to ultimately enable the building to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 8 or higher. Regarding raw material supply, by securing international steel supplier capacity in advance and establishing green transportation channels, the raw material delivery cycle was shortened by 12 days, allowing ample time for subsequent production and manufacturing. The project manager of Liweiyuan Steel Structure introduced, "The successful shipment of these steel structure components is a significant milestone in the project's progress. Next, we will dispatch a professional technical team to Chile to provide on-site installation guidance, based on the installation schedule, to ensure the project is completed and put into operation as scheduled by the end of July 2026." This project is an important achievement of the deepening cooperation between China and Chile in the field of infrastructure construction.
