On February 28, 2026, the first batch of core components for a modern steel structure warehouse project in Montevideo, Uruguay, manufactured by Qingdao Liweiyuan Steel Structure Co., Ltd., was successfully loaded onto a ship at Qingdao Port, China, marking the official start of the on-site construction phase for this transnational cooperative project.
The warehouse project has a total investment of approximately US$2 million and a total construction area of 3,000 square meters. It adopts a large-span portal frame structure design and is equipped with automated loading and unloading equipment interfaces. Upon completion, it will become the largest comprehensive logistics and warehousing center in southeastern Uruguay, primarily serving the transshipment and storage of local agricultural and electronic products. The components shipped this time include main steel columns, steel beams, and a roof support system, with a total weight of approximately 100 tons. After rigorous quality inspection, they were transported to Uruguay by ocean-going cargo ship and are expected to arrive at the Port of Montevideo in 28 days. The project manager of Liweiyuan Steel Structure introduced that all steel structure components of the warehouse are manufactured according to Chinese national standards, using Q355B steel with excellent wind and earthquake resistance, adaptable to the climate conditions of Uruguay's coastal region. Upon completion, the project will effectively alleviate the local logistics and warehousing capacity shortage and promote trade efficiency between Uruguay and neighboring South American countries. The head of Liweiyuan Steel Structure's processing plant stated that they will continue to ensure the timeliness and quality stability of component supply, guaranteeing the smooth and high-quality delivery of every steel structure component.
Representatives of the local Uruguayan partner congratulated the shipment of the first batch of components via video link, stating that the steel structure warehouse project is an important achievement of cooperation between China and Uruguay in the infrastructure sector, creating nearly 200 jobs and promoting regional economic development.
